In 2020, my (90-ish year old) mother-in-law made a trip from the French island of Corsica, to visit my family in Woodbridge, VA. We toured around Virginia to see many sites; one of which was the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Photo shows the final completed and retouched work of a photo of the National Museum of the Marine Corps before the new section was added.

I captured a multi-row/column panoramic image of the museum, consisting of about 3 rows x 20 columns.

There is a great video tour of the museum by MrDingoDan Vlogs on Youtube.

It was a lot of walking for her. Here we toured through the “Pacific War” section.

My mother-in-law recalls WWII with the Germans had occupied Corsica. They built gun emplacements around the island, one of which was a short walk up the hill from her home. She recalls the curfew in the evening and how they kept the windows darkened.

Finally, I took her to the ticket counter at the Medal of Honor theater, where I showe her a photo I had taken of the medallion for the museum in 2016.

The I took the photo(s) of the medallion using a Nikon D-810 DSLR. To make the image 8′ high, I had to photograph the medallion super-close-up and capture it in tiles. Further, the front of the metal was in focus but the background was not, so I had to focus stack each step. If’ you would like to read how it was done, check out my post on Macro Product Photography.
